Unazuki Onsen
Hot springs and the beautiful Kurobe Gorge.
About Unazuki Onsen
Unazuki Onsen is a cosy little town famous for its hot springs. The town is well tucked away in a scenic valley in the northern Japanese Alps.
Nature, relaxation and hot springs
Unazuki Onsen is famous for its hot springs. Hot springs are called 'onsen' in Japanese, so it is in the name! If you visit here, spend the night at a 'ryokan', a traditional Japanese inn that has its own spa with natural hot water, heated by the local volcanoes. Here you live surrounded by beautiful nature in traditional rooms where you sleep on the soft tatami floor, and it is impossible not to relax completely in the soul when the body is so well treated. Included in the package is half board with exquisite traditional Japanese party food, prepared on your ryokan and varied by season. Also, remember to taste the local beer which is said to be extra good due to the pure spring water.
Other attractions in Unazuki Onsen
If you want to explore the scenic area, a train ride through the Kurobe Gorge, one of the deepest canyons in Japan, is recommended. With its pristine forests and almost vertical cliffs, it is also one of the most beautiful. The best way to experience it is with the Kurobe Gorge Railway, a small train that runs 20 km along a long and curved stretch between Unazuki and Keyakidaira stations. The trip takes about 80 minutes and along the way you see more than 20 bridges, drive through more than 40 tunnels and experience the overwhelming gorge manifest. The train stops a few places along the way, so you can get off and explore.
