Nowadays, Nikko is a symbol of beauty and grandeur and is UNESCO World Heritage-recognized. On this tour you'll explore ancient treasures like the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, as well as Kanmangafuchi Abyss, a small gorge formed by an eruption of Mt. Nantai.
Suggested itinerary
You'll meet your guide at Tobu Nikko station. Please be there 10 minutes before departure.
We’ll begin our excursion at Kanmangafuchi Abyss, a petite gorge shaped by the eruption of Mt. Nantai. It features a line of around 70 stone statues of Jizo, a Bodhisattva revered as the protector of children, positioned along the riverbanks. According to legend, the number of these statues mysteriously fluctuates each time they are counted. On the opposite side of the Jizo statues, you'll find a botanical garden, allowing visitors to relish the changing seasonal landscapes.
Enjoy a Japanese style lunch in a local restaurant.
After lunch, you'll visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nikko Toshogu Shrine and learn about the 400 year-long history of the Tokugawa regime. This sacred place is where Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, is enshrined. Marvel at the traditional beauty of the main hall, as well as the sleeping cat and monkey carvings.
Your guide will explain the history of the area, its importance in Japanese culture and the purpose behind each of the different buildings, each constructed in full harmony with the surrounding nature built by more than 15,000 artisans.
After heading to Tobu Nikko Station by local bus, your tour ends at Nikko station.
After a day full of sightseeing, the tour ends at Tobu Nikko Station.
