About Shikotsu-Toya National Park
Shikotsu-Toya National Park in western Hokkaido is a scenic area that offers hot springs, volcanic landscapes and unique experiences.

Get carried away by nature's power and mystery
Beautiful Lake Toya was chosen as the picturesque setting when Japan hosted the G8 meeting in July 2008. There are many opportunities for beautiful walks in the area, and there is also an active volcano, Mount Usu, which had its last eruption in the year 2000. At Lake Toya, there are good opportunities for accommodation at ’ryokan’, Japanese inns with hot springs and traditional food.

Other landmarks in Shikotsu-Toya National Park
We can recommend a visit to Noboribetsu Onsen, Hokkaido's most famous hot spring resort. Here are many small onsen (hot springs) and especially the so-called "Valley of hell" (Jigokudani) is worth a visit. Jigokudani is a valley located above the city. Here are sulphur-rich streams, small ponds with scorching hot water and much other volcanic activity - and many fine walking paths. The warm river Oyunumagawa that runs through the forest is a particularly unique sight. You can walk hundreds of metres along the river, yes, even take a foot bath on the way!
