You'll meet the group and tour leader in front of Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit and walk to Kyoto Station. On the JR Rapid/local train you leave towards Saga-Arashiyama Station.
Your first stop will be Jojakko-ji Temple. Built towards the end of the 16th century, Jojakko-ji temple is a Nichiren-style temple nestled in the side of Mt. Kokura. It boasts wonderful views of Sagano and Kyoto from the Tahoto pagoda, especially during cherry blossom season and in autumn.
The Bamboo Grove is the green lungs of Arashiyama. Enjoy the sunlight falling through the leaves of thousands of bamboos and hear the atmospheric sounds of the wind rustling through the bamboo leaves. Enjoy a relaxing walk in Japan’s most popular bamboo grove.
After the Bamboo Grove, you will visit the Tenryu-ji temple. Tenryu-ji is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, and it is one of the five great Zen temples of Kyoto. Built in 1339, the temple was a dedication to the emperor of the time, Go-Daigo. Take a stroll around the temple complex, and enjoy the beautiful surrounding gardens, streams, and pond.
Next up, you'll walk by the 250-meter-long Togetsukyo Bridge which connects the north and south banks of the Hozu River and is one of the icons of Arashiyama.
You will end this excursion by taking a boat trip on the Hozu river. Board the traditional wooden long boat called yakatabune, and enjoy the surrounding scenery of Arashiyama, showing you a different colour in every season.
After riding the yakatabune, you will head back to Kyoto Station together, where the excursion ends.
