Overview

Discover Kyushu’s Sacred Sites: Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, Takachiho Gorge & Amano Iwato-jinja

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the mystical landscapes of Kyushu. This guided day trip takes you to Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, a spiritual sanctuary lined with nearly 100 lanterns and made famous by Japanese anime.

Next, you’ll visit Amano Iwato-jinja Shrine and Amanoyasukawara, where thousands of prayer stones symbolize hope and divine blessings. Then, you’ll explore the breathtaking Takachiho Gorge, a valley shaped by the volcanic power of Mount Aso, featuring the stunning Manai Falls and historic arch bridges spanning three different eras.

During cherry blossom season, you can enjoy an exclusive stop at Takamori Senbonzakura, where thousands of sakura trees create an enchanting pink landscape. With professional local guidance, seamless transportation, and a complimentary Miyazaki specialty gift, an extraordinary cultural and natural experience awaits.

Suggested itinerary

Gather at Lawson Fukuoka Oriental Hotel (Hakata Station Chikushi Exit). Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in with the tour guide. At 8:00, board the tour bus, and begin your journey to Kyushu’s stunning landscapes and sacred sites.

At the first stop, you’ll get the chance to explore the mystical shrine of Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu in Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture, known for its stone lantern-lined pathways, mossy cedar forest backdrop, and anime connections. Marvel at the sacred Nagi tree, believed to bring prosperity and love, and climb up to Ugeto Rock, a natural wind tunnel on the mountain symbolizing strength and resilience.

(Stop during Cherry blossom season only: late March to early April) Experience a breathtaking display of thousands of cherry blossoms in full bloom, creating a mesmerizing pink canopy.
Next, you’ll discover the legendary Amano Iwato-jinja Shrine, deeply rooted in Japanese mythology. Walk along the Amanoyasukawara Riverbed, where visitors stack stones to make wishes, creating a scene of countless prayer towers.
The dramatic cliffs and pristine waters of Takachiho Gorge are a rarely beautiful sight to behold. Take a walk on the scenic 1-kilometer trail, catch a glimpse of the 17-meter-high Manai Falls, and capture stunning photos of the iconic Takachiho Sandanbashi Bridge. Here you’ll have a lunch break, and you can get lunch at your own expense, with options available at local restaurants.

Relax on the drive back to Fukuoka, reflecting on the day’s spiritual and scenic wonders. Around 18:00, you’ll arrive to Lawson Fukuoka Oriental Hotel (Hakata Station Chikushi Exit), where the trip concludes.
