Suggested itinerary
Get your bike and meet your English-speaking tour leader at Kyoto Station Cycle Terminal which is about a 3-minute walk from the central exit (north side) of Kyoto Station.
Soak up the atmosphere as you cycle through narrow streets, beautiful wide avenues, and scenic rivers.
Begin the journey with a visit to Miyagawacho, a renowned district filled with shrines, temples, tea houses, and Kabuki theaters. As you proceed to Kyoto's eastern Gion area, the city's most famous geisha district, you'll encounter traditional townhouses adorned with ochre latticework facades and gracefully curved bamboo fences. Immerse yourself in the world of the Geisha as you explore the narrow stone-paved lanes.
Continuing along the Shirakawa River, you'll have the opportunity to savour the view from the charming Tatsumi Bridge, which is particularly enchanting when framed by cherry blossoms or the vibrant hues of autumn leaves.
Next on the itinerary is a leisurely cycle through the verdant Kyoto Gyoen National Garden, which houses the Imperial Palace and several other historical sites. This expansive green haven is beloved by locals who come to appreciate the changing seasons - from cherry blossoms in spring to golden ginkgo leaves in fall, and an array of flora throughout the year.
To wrap up the tour, enjoy a relaxing cycle along the scenic Kamogawa riverside promenade. Kamogawa is a favoured spot among locals for leisurely strolls and picnics, making it perfect for cycling without the hassle of traffic. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including ducks, herons, and black-headed gulls, and make use of the Kamogawa's "stepping stones" to hop across the water.
This cycling tour finishes at Kyoto's bicycle terminal station. Feel free to ask your guide for lunch recommendations.
