Overview

See Mt. Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi and Chureito Pagoda in one seamless guided day trip from Shinjuku.

This curated day tour brings together the most sought-after Mt. Fuji views in a single, comfortable itinerary. Departing from Shinjuku by bus, travel with a National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter towards Mt. Fuji’s 5th Station, where, weather permitting, panoramic views open above the clouds.

Continue to Lake Kawaguchi and enjoy a Japanese-style lunch that reflects local flavours. Then, arrive to Oishi Park for elegant lakeside vistas, framed by seasonal colours. In the afternoon, visit Arakurayama Sengen Park and climb to the iconic Chureito Pagoda lookout, where the pagoda, townscape, and Mt. Fuji align in one unforgettable scene. With expert commentary, reliable operations, and no logistical stress, this is a refined and efficient way to experience Japan’s most iconic mountain.

Suggested itinerary

8:20

Arrive at the bus boarding area near Shinjuku Station East Exit at least 10 minutes before departure. Staff assist with check-in; your English-speaking guide outlines the day’s schedule, safety notes, and viewing points to watch for en route.

Settle into your reserved seat as the coach leaves Tokyo towards Yamanashi. Your guide shares background on Mt. Fuji’s World Heritage status, local culture, and the landscapes you pass. Enjoy a smooth, scenic drive without the stress of transfers.

Ascend the Fuji Subaru Line to Mt. Fuji’s 5th Station (2,300 m) when conditions allow. Use this time for views over the surrounding peaks, a shrine visit, short walks, and photographs. At this altitude, weather changes quickly; your guide advises on best vantage points and timing.

Note: If access is restricted due to weather or road conditions, the itinerary will adjust to alternative sites such as Oshino Hakkai or the Fujisan World Heritage Centre.

Continue to a selected restaurant near Kawaguchiko. Enjoy a Japanese-style set meal featuring meat and fish dishes, presented with seasonal touches. Your guide will confirm the menu details on the day.

Note: Vegetarian meals require booking the dedicated vegetarian plan in advance; special allergy, halal, or gluten-free menus cannot be arranged on this tour.

After lunch, arrive at Oishi Park on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi, one of the most photogenic Fuji-view spots. Stroll at your own pace along the lakeside path, enjoy clear-sky reflections of Mt. Fuji, and capture seasonal scenery, from spring flowers to autumn colours and winter clarity.

Reboard the bus and cross the Kawaguchi Ohashi Bridge. From your window, take in panoramic views of the lake and surrounding peaks. Your guide points out landmarks and offers tips for future independent visits.

Disembark near Shimo-Yoshida Station and follow your guide through quiet streets to Arakura Sengen Shrine, where red torii frame glimpses of Mt. Fuji. The climb begins here: around 398 steps, shaded by cedars and sky, a steady rhythm of breath and anticipation. Pause when you like – each landing opens a little wider view over the rooftops of Fujiyoshida.

At the top, the scene feels almost unreal: the five-storied Chureito Pagoda in crisp vermillion, the soft grid of the city below, and Mt. Fuji rising calm and immense beyond it all. On clear days, the summit’s snow-cap glows; in spring, cherry blossoms edge the view; in autumn, maples burn gold and red. Take a moment to be still – the alignment is both postcard-perfect and deeply moving.

If you prefer not to climb, linger at the hill’s lower terraces. There are gentler viewpoints here, where you can still feel Fuji’s presence and soak in the mountain air without the ascent.

17:30

Depart Arakurayama Sengen Park at 16:00 by bus, and relax on the return journey. Arrival is scheduled near Shinjuku Station West Exit, where the tour concludes.
